There’s a New Moose In Town: The Bull Moose Maduro

Chillin Moose Bull Moose Maduro Gigante is a bold Maduro addition to the Bull Moose line of cigars. These Nicaraguan puros feature a hearty blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos finished with a dark and oily Nicaraguan Habano leaf wrapper. Lets get into the Review

Appearance

Construction (4/5):
The Bull Moose Maduro has a rugged yet appealing appearance. The construction of this cigar is solid, with a firm feel that indicates a well-packed filler. There were no noticeable soft spots, and the cap was expertly applied, allowing for a clean cut. The band is bold and eye-catching, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal.

Wrapper Quality (4/5):
Its dark, oily wrapper gives me a sense of power and richness, with minimal veins and a slightly rough texture. The Maduro wrapper is a highlight that speaks to the aging process. A fan of Oscuro will feel right at home here. It’s slightly toothy, which adds to the tactile experience.

Final Appearance Score (8/10)

Aroma

Pre-light Aroma (4/5):
Before lighting, the cigar offers a pleasant aroma of dark chocolate, leather, and a slight hint of spice. The Pre-lit aroma is a mix of earthiness and cocoa, with a hint of sweetness. It’s rich and inviting.

Burn Aroma (5/5):
Once lit, the aroma is consistent with the pre-light notes but becomes more pronounced, Chocolate notes are strong but do not overstay their welcome, and the spice is a pleasant undertone that rarely jumps up front.

Final Aroma Score (9/10)

Draw

Resistance (4/5):
The draw is near perfect, offering just the right amount of resistance. It’s smooth and allows for a good volume of smoke with each puff. While I usually prefer cigars with easier draws then this is fine here considering the ring gauge and strength it ensures that it doesn’t overheat and that the flavors develop properly.

Consistency (5/5):
The Bull Moose Maduro is consistent in its performance, the draw was consistent throughout the entire session and I did not have to use a draw tool.

Final Draw Score (9/10)

Flavor

Initial Flavors (5/5):
The initial flavors are a rich blend of earth, dark chocolate, and a hint of black pepper. It’s a bold start that immediately grabs attention. it doesn’t slap you across the face with spice rather it holds your hand.

Mid-Smoke Flavors (10/10):
As the cigar progresses, the flavors deepen, with notes of espresso, Chocolate, and a touch of sweetness coming through. The peppery spice also mellows out, allowing the darker, richer notes to shine. If you make it this far this is the reward.

Finish (2/5):
The finish is long and a bit underwhelming, with a lingering taste of cocoa and a slightly earthy undertone the sweetness dissipates and leaves a somewhat bitter taste in your mouth not far from a tannin-filled red wine that could be a plus for some, me? I could do without .

Final Flavor Score (17/20)

Burn

Evenness (4/5):
The burn is mostly even, with only minor touch-ups needed along the way. I tend to mess up wider ring gauge cigars and this is no different, but I won’t hold it against it due to user error.

Ash (3/5):
The ash is firm and light gray, holding for about half an inch before it tends to fall off(partly due to the cigar band being the size of a New York Billboard). It’s still a good sign of the cigar’s overall quality.

Final Burn Score (7/10)

Strength

Body (3/5):
The Body of the Bull Moose Maduro is ok not too overpowering and not too mild though inconsistent between the first and final third

Nicotine Strength (5/5):
The Bull Moose Maduro leans towards the full-bodied side, with a strength that builds gradually. It’s not overwhelming but certainly packs a punch, making it a good choice for experienced smokers. I would recommend new smokers try out a different stick if they plan on driving after.

Final Strength Score (8/10):

Complexity

Flavor Evolution (2/5): The depth and development of flavors over time leave something to be desired. it could be the Vitola that cuts the final third flavor short.

Balance (3/5): The interplay between the earthiness, sweetness, and spice keeps it interesting from the start and never gets incredibly one-sided.

Final Complexity Score (5/10):

Value

Value (10/10):
For the price, the Bull Moose Maduro offers excellent value. It delivers a high-quality smoking experience that rivals more expensive cigars, making it a great addition to any humidor or Herf this is the perfect cigar to start the night off with, and at under $5 it is the perfect cigar to smoke when the wallet is looking a little thin.

Overall Rating: 61/90
